Medical Industry Sanctions

Ensure the candidate is in good standing with the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and has not been tagged in the Fraud and Abuse Control Information Systems (FACIS) database. A medical candidate that is flagged in either of these systems is not eligible for reimbursement for Medicare or Medicaid claims.

The decision to hire a medical candidate is at least partially dependent upon their ability to service any clients or patients your private practice, clinic or hospital may see, including those who are covered under Medicaid or Medicare. You must additionally be concerned with the issues that landed a medical candidate in poor standing with the OIG in the first place, or the legal problems that resulted in FACIS database inclusion. The integrity of the candidate is of utmost importance and the appearance in FACIS or the presence of OIG sanctions brings the character and ethics of any medical candidate into question.
